Without a proper noun
Without a proper noun is the result of artistic research undertaken by Laura Lovatel and Federica Menin, with the design concept of the book coming from Lupo Burtscher. The starting point is a slant on the Greek city of Kolonos, through the observation of green fallow land. On the basis of this, reflections on architecture, space, ecology, collectivity, etc. are made, and first steps taken in the direction of a re-working on open spaces are tried out.
The special feature of this catalogue, which appears in the spirit of DIY, is the variable composition of its individual parts and narrations. The full-page digitally printed A3 pages, folded in the middle into a A4 size booklet, can be bound in various sequences, which were tested in collective actions with the artists in Greece and Bolzano. The resulting two-part image fragments provide new combinations and readings. Important inspirations for the project are printed in the Kindred Books – related books – as an insert on pink paper. Texts by experts on the subject appear on a green background. Instructions, sketches, and recorded conversations convey knowledge in a non-linear and creative way.
